Illini In UFC129

April 30th, 2011

UFC 129 is this weekend and everyone is getting excited to see the headlining fight between Georges St. Pierre and challenger Jake Shields.  MMA fans are divided on this bout with both fighters pulling support. No matter where you stand on the GSP vs. Shields title fight, CutThroat has an underdog all of our fans can stand behind.

Kyle Watson will be fighting John Makdessi who is currently undefeated.  Kyle was born was raised in Litchfield, Illinois. A small town just south of Springfield, and he fights out of Granite City, IL.  Kyle attended the University of Illinois where he studied education. While in college he became interested in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and started training. He wanted to test his skills to see if what he was learning was realistic, and the closest thing to BJJ without getting into a street fight was MMA. Watson won his first fight by submission and knew that he wanted to pursue a MMA career.Kyle needed to make money to fund his fighting and became operations manager for Kaplan in Champaign, IL while he was working he fought part time. When he was signed to H.I.T. Squad he was able to focus on fighting full time. Kyle is a Red/Black Belt is JeetKune Do Concepts and a 3-stripe Brown Belt in BJJ, and has held the titles of Total Fight Challenge Lightweight Champion, and Kage One Lightweight Champion.  Kyle will be fighting one of the first undercard fights of the night. Watson only has two UFC fights underneath his belt, but an overall record of 16-7-1. At the current moment the money line on Kyle’s fight is Watson +165 and Makdessi -205, giving the slight advantage to Kyle.  The fight can be seen on Facebook , and not to mention Tony is picking him to win.

Money on the line?
You need to understand the Money line:

April 29th, 2011

The countdown is on for UFC 129.  If you are new to sports gambling or gambling on MMA in particular, you may not be familiar with exactly what the money line is and how it works.  Most people are familiar with how to gamble with a point spread, but the money line is actually less complicated.  The point spread is concerned with who wins and by how much, while the money is solely concerned with who wins.

The best way to learn how a money line works is to see it in action. We will explain the money line using UFC 129 Championship fight between Georges St. Pierre and Jake Shields.

Georges St. Pierre -375
Jake Shields +305

The number following the fighter’s name is their money line for UFC 129.  In this fight, Georges St. Pierre is the favorite and has the minus(-) sign in front of his number.  What this means is that in order for someone to win $100, they must bet $375. Jake Shields has the plus (+) sign, making him the underdog.  The plus sign means that wagers of $100 on Shields will return $305.  The $100 is not a minimum bet, but rather just a barometer to make the math simple.  The money line is used regardless of the amount people decide to wager.

There are instances where both fighters will have a negative money line.  In UFC 129 there are several examples of this.
Bocek -115
Henderson -115

This is an even money line where the odds makers see the fight as even.  Again, betting $115 will bring you $100 with a win.
Brilz -105
Matyushenko -125

The Brilz vs Matyushenko is another example of a bout where both fighters have a negative money line.  Matyushenko is the favorite here and wagering $125 will have a return of $100 if your fighter wins.  Betting on the underdog, Brilz, the wager is $105 to win $100.

In the days leading up to the fight the money line could change as the odds makers try to entice people to wager on both fighters.  Tony’s picks are below. BetSDI is our official sportsbook for UFC 129.  All new BetDSI members will receive a 20% Bonus on their first deposit.  You can ride with Tony or you can make your own picks.

UFC 129 Fight Preview

April 28th, 2011

This Saturday Toronto will be hosting UFC129. The Fight Card is filled with matches with combatants vying for cash, pride and title belts. UFC129 features three signature matchups. Georges Saint Pierre will take on Jake Shields for the Welter Weight Title Belt, Jose Aldo will look to defend his Feather Weight Belt against challenger Mark Hominick, and MMA legend Randy Couture will battle Lyoto Machida in the final bout of his career.

Georges St. Pierre vs Jake Shields

Georges St. Pierre, who has been referred to as one of the World’s best pound for pound fighter, will have a tough matchup against James Shields who uses unique style of Brazilian JiuJitsu, making him a tough opponent to take down.  Shields is coming off a big win against Dan Henderson and in the past six years is undefeated at15-0. Even with Shields’ impressive unbeaten streak, he remains a heavy underdog as GSP is as dominant as ever. GSP, always looking for an edge, has hired Freddie Roach the legendary American boxing trainer to improve his striking.  GSP hopes adding improved striking to his arsenal will to help counter the ground game of Jake Shields.  The current money line on fight right now is -370 GSP, +300 Shields.

Randy Couture vs Lyoto Machida

This fight is third on the bill, but it is definitely on the front of every MMA fan’s mind.  Couture, 47, claims UFC129 will be his last fight in the Octagon. Machida will look to deny Couture a fair well victory and also rebound from a pair of recent losses. A highly publicized win against Couture will allow Machida to become a top contender again.  Machida is known for his interesting karate style of fighting. Couture will rely on guts and guile to garner a victory. This is going to be an extremely close fight and the first one to make a mistake might cost them bout.  Machida is the favorite according to odds makers at -355, but fans everywhere will be pulling for the underdog legend Couture at +250.

Mark Hominick vs Jose Aldo

The second fight on the card is another championship bout pairing Mark Hominick vs. Defending Featherweight ChampionJose Aldo. Hominick won a shot at the belt after defeating George Roop, by KO in 89 seconds. Aldo on the other hand has won 11 straight and is undefeated in the past five years.   These two fighters play into each other’s strengths. Both are very quick strikers, and both also have excellent ground game. Aldo is a black belt in BJJ which can play into his favor once on the ground, but this match is bound to be one of the best UFC Featherweight fights ever. The line on this fight is Aldo -415, and Hominick +315.
